Henderson police providing home drug testing kits to parents
Excerpt from kvbc.com
Police in Henderson are providing free home saliva testing kits to parents who want to check their children for drug use. Officer Ryan Brightwell says three-piece kits are 99.5 percent accurate in detecting seven drugs.
That includes methamphetamine, cocaine, PCP, marijuana, opiates and a common ingredient in prescription sedatives. Brightwell tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal the department used a $17,000 federal grant to buy almost 2,000 of the tests.
They're being distributed at a police community relations office at the Galleria at Sunset mall. Parents also get free literature including a drug identification guide and a list of youth drug treatment centers.
They fill out anonymous letters so police can track the effectiveness of the test. Henderson is Nevada's second-largest city, near Las Vegas.
